THE MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL (2)
Main Text: “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” – Colossians 1:26–27
Beloveds, welcome to the second edition of our series, “The Mystery of the Gospel.” In our previous study, we learned that the Gospel is a divine mystery, not because it is unknowable, but because it can only be understood through the revelation of the Holy Spirit. In this edition, we shall explore one of the greatest mysteries ever revealed to mankind which is Christ in the believer.
For generations, this mystery, Christ in the Believer, has remained hidden. Prophets foretold it, angels longed to understand it, and saints anticipated it. But through Christ, God unveiled what had been concealed from ages past saying, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” This declaration surpasses human reasoning. interestingly, many people questioned, how can the eternal Son of God dwell in millions of believers at the same time? How can the Creator of the universe make the human heart His dwelling place? Most importantly, these questions cannot be answered by philosophy or science. They belong to the realm of divine revelation. For instance, think back to the day you surrendered your life to Christ. Perhaps you prayed, “Lord Jesus, come into my life. Be my Lord and Saviour.”
Friends, permit me to tell you that at that moment, the greatest miracle of your life took place. Christ came to dwell in you by His Spirit. Yet nothing visible may have happened. There may have been no dramatic sensation, no outward sign, and no physical evidence that Heaven had responded. But God’s promise was fulfilled. The reality of your salvation rested not on what you felt but on what God said. This is the mystery of the Gospel. In fact, you must understand that the deepest spiritual realities are often invisible to human eyes but absolutely certain because they rest upon the unchanging Word of God. Sadly, many believers struggle because they measure God’s presence by their emotions. In essence, when they feel inspired, they believe God is near. When emotions fade, they assume He has withdrawn. But the Christian life is not sustained by feelings; it is sustained by faith. As a matter of fact our confidence rests in God’s promise, not in our emotions. Simply put, Christ did not say, “I will dwell in you when you feel Me.” He promised never to leave nor forsake those who belong to Him.
Child of God, faith believes what God has spoken, even when the senses remain silent. Paul describes this mystery as “the hope of glory.” In other words, Christ within you is more than a comforting thought. He is your victory over sin, your strength in weakness, your wisdom in confusion, your peace in adversity, your assurance of eternal life and your confidence that God’s glory will ultimately be revealed through you. Honestly, the Christian life is not merely an improved human life. It is the life of Christ expressed through a surrendered believer. This is the secret the world cannot explain. Therefore, if you have genuinely placed your faith in Him, He lives in you, not because you always feel His presence, but because He has promised it. To this end, learnt to walk by faith, stand upon His Word, and allow Christ within you to shape your thoughts, your character, and your daily conduct. For the greatest mystery ever revealed is the fact that Christ lives in His people.
