THE MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL (3)
Main Text: “That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.” – Ephesians 3:6
Brethren, welcome to the third edition of our series, “The Mystery of the Gospel.” In our previous study, we learned that the indwelling Christ is not a concept the natural mind can comprehend, but a divine reality revealed by the Holy Spirit. Today, we shall consider God’s creation of one family from every nation. First, our main text declares that the Gentiles have become “fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ.” To the new generation, this may seem familiar, but to the first-century Church, it was a staggering revelation.
For centuries, Israel stood as God’s covenant nation. The Gentiles were regarded as strangers to the covenants of promise, separated from the commonwealth of Israel and without hope in the world. Then came Christ, and through His death, burial, and resurrection, He removed every barrier that separated Jew from Gentile, creating one redeemed people united by faith. This was not merely a change in religious practice; it was the unveiling of God’s eternal purpose. In essence, the Gospel does more than forgive sin. It reconciles people to God and to one another. Specifically, at the cross, racial pride lost its place. Cultural superiority was abolished. National distinctions no longer determine a person’s standing before God. In other words, every believer now approaches the Father on the same ground, the finished work of Jesus Christ. No one is accepted because of ancestry and no one is rejected because of nationality.
Friends, in Christ, every believer stands equally as a child of God and an heir of His promises. This is one of the glorious mysteries hidden through the ages but revealed in the Gospel. Interestingly, the early Jewish believers struggled with this truth. Many found it difficult to accept that Gentiles could inherit the same promises without first becoming Jews. Yet God made it unmistakably clear that salvation is by grace through faith, not by race, culture, or tradition. Simply put, the Church is not a collection of separate groups. It is one body with Christ as its Head as declared in the Bible, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one family and every believer, regardless of background, belongs to the same household of God. This revelation carries a practical responsibility. If God has received us as one family, we must reject every form of prejudice, discrimination, tribalism, racism, and spiritual pride. It means that our highest identity is no longer found in our ethnicity, nationality, denomination, or social status. It is found in Christ.
Child of God, the world may be divided by race, language, politics, and culture, but the Church is called to demonstrate the unity that only the Gospel can produce. When believers genuinely love one another across every human barrier, they become living evidence of the mystery of the Gospel. As a matter of fact, one of the greatest triumphs of the cross is that it created one new humanity in Christ. As a result, those who were once strangers have become sons. Those who were once far off have been brought near. Those who were once divided have become one body. This is the mystery revealed through the Gospel. May we never allow earthly distinctions to overshadow our heavenly identity. For in Christ, we are one family, one body, and fellow heirs of the grace of God.
