Topic: Even God Has Secret Things (4)
Main Text: Judges 16:17 – “That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head…”
Citizens of Zion, I welcome you once again to another moment of illumination with our Kingdom Matters Devotional. I pray that as you receive this word, the Lord will grant you understanding, deepen your discernment, and preserve you from costly spiritual errors, in Jesus’ name.
In this edition, we shall consider what I titled, “The Tragedy of a Leaking Mouth”, using the life of Samson as our case study. To begin with, if you carefully study our main text, you will observe that the Bible says Samson “told her all his heart.” This was more than mere conversation; it was dangerous exposure. It was the unveiling of a covenant secret to the wrong vessel. As a matter of fact, his mouth released what his destiny depended on, and that singular act became the doorway to his downfall.
Friends, a leaking mouth is a mouth that cannot carry weighty matters in silence. It is a mouth that is too quick to speak, too eager to reveal, and too careless with sacred things. In fact, it is a mouth that finds comfort in disclosure without discernment. Such a mouth can destroy in a moment what grace built over many years. From the life of Samson, we learn painful but powerful lessons as captured below.
- That, not every relationship deserves access to your secrets.
Samson was emotionally entangled with Delilah, but emotional closeness does not equal spiritual safety. - That, repeated pressure is often a test of your discipline. The Scripture makes it clear that Delilah pressed Samson daily. The enemy does not always come with open violence; sometimes he comes with persistence.
- That, your strength can depart before you realize it. The Bible says Samson “wist not that the Lord was departed from him.” A man can still appear active, still shake himself, still speak with confidence, and yet the glory has quietly lifted.
Beloved, the tragedy of a leaking mouth is not merely in the talking; it is in the consequences that follow. Samson did not lose his strength on the battlefield. He did not lose it in public warfare. He lost it in private disclosure. He lost it through careless conversation. He lost it because his mouth betrayed what his consecration was meant to protect. At this juncture, permit me to ask you:
- Who currently has access to your “all your heart”?
- Who knows details about your covenant, your weakness, your divine assignment, and your spiritual dealings?
- Who is pressing you daily for information you ought to guard?
Child of God, destiny is too precious to be handled carelessly. Some secrets are not meant for pillow talk. Some revelations are not for casual discussion. Some matters must remain between you and God until their purpose is fulfilled. Many have survived battles of witches and enemies, yet were brought down by the weakness of an unguarded tongue. Unlike Samson, Joseph endured temptation with restraint. Unlike Samson, Daniel preserved his consecration in a strange land. But Samson allowed his mouth to betray his mantle. Finally, in this season, I encourage you to learn restraint, silence and discernment. There are battles you will never need to fight if you refuse to speak carelessly. There are arrows that will never locate you if your mouth does not reveal your position.
May your mouth not sabotage your anointing. May you never exchange divine strength for emotional comfort. May you never surrender sacred secrets to those who do not carry the fear of God.
See you in the next edition.
Shalom
